Our Side Quests
Shaping the Future of Senior Living
Transforming Memory Care Through AI Companions
Senior Housing Managers, in collaboration with CloudMind Systems and Pacific Living Centers, is helping lead the next generation of person-centered memory care through the use of AI-powered avatar companions for residents living with dementia and cognitive impairment.
Personalized AI Support for Memory Care Residents
Building on a multi-site pilot across Oregon memory care communities, Pacific Living Centers introduced residents to AI companions such as “Kathy,” a conversational avatar designed to provide companionship, emotional support, cognitive engagement, and meaningful interaction throughout the day. The initiative reflects Senior Housing Managers’ ongoing commitment to innovation, workforce support, and improving quality of life for seniors through practical technology solutions.
Helping Caregivers Understand Resident Needs
The CloudMind avatar companions are designed specifically for older adults and memory care residents. Using conversational AI, sentiment analysis, and personalized engagement tools, the avatars can interact with residents in ways that feel natural, calming, and supportive. Residents are able to discuss memories, hobbies, faith, music, family, and daily emotions while the system helps caregivers better understand resident mood, behavioral trends, and communication needs.
“Hello, I am Kathy”
Strengthening Care Through Responsible Innovation
Senior Housing Managers views AI companions not as a replacement for human caregivers, but as a tool that augments compassionate care. The platform is designed to strengthen relationships between residents, staff, and families while helping caregivers manage growing workforce pressures in senior living and dementia care. The initiative also supports broader goals around person-centered care, behavioral health support, and enhanced resident engagement.
As research and implementation continue, Senior Housing Managers and Pacific Living Centers remain committed to exploring ethical, responsible, and clinically meaningful uses of artificial intelligence in senior housing. Through partnerships with healthcare providers, researchers, and technology innovators, the organization is helping shape a future where technology enhances dignity, connection, and quality of life for older adults living with memory loss.

Top Gun Leadership Simulation Program
Senior Housing Managers (under the leadership of Dr. Christian A. Mason) is the creator and lead developer of the Top Gun Leadership Simulation Program, an innovative educational and leadership initiative designed to strengthen the future of senior living and aging services. Developed in collaboration with SeniorLytics, the Top Gun platform has evolved into a dynamic online simulation experience that combines real-world operational decision-making with leadership development, financial strategy, quality improvement, and team-based competition. The program was created to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world healthcare leadership by providing participants with immersive case-study simulations modeled after the complexities of modern senior care operations.
Bridging Education and Real-World Senior Living Leadership
Top Gun brings together healthcare providers, academic institutions, students, and industry leaders in a collaborative environment focused on education, innovation, and professional growth. Through live simulations, regional symposiums, and competitive events, participants work in teams to navigate staffing challenges, reimbursement pressures, quality metrics, census development, emergency response scenarios, and operational strategy. The program is designed not only to build leadership skills, but also to foster stronger relationships between providers and the next generation of healthcare professionals. By integrating academic engagement with industry participation, Top Gun creates meaningful opportunities for mentorship, workforce development, and experiential learning.
Building the Future Senior Living Workforce
A central mission of the Top Gun initiative is to support the future healthcare workforce. Sponsorship funding associated with the program is directed toward helping students attend educational conferences, leadership events, and industry training opportunities. The model encourages collaboration across the senior living sector while promoting innovation, communication, and strategic thinking in a highly interactive environment. As the program continues to expand through partnerships with colleges, universities, and provider organizations, Senior Housing Managers and SeniorLytics remain committed to advancing leadership excellence and strengthening the future of aging services through education-driven simulation and technology.
